Avalanche signs Andreas Martinsen
Norwegian forward inks one-year deal.
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has re-signed forward Andreas Martinsen to a one-year contract for the 2016-17 season. Martinsen, 26, tallied 11 points (4g/7a) in 55 games for the Avalanche during his first NHL season in 2015-16. He finished fourth on the team and fifth among NHL rookies with 155 hits. In fact, his 2.82 hits-per-game average led all NHL rookies (min 40 GP).
Martinsen also skated in 10 games (1g/1a) for Colorado’s American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. The Baerum, Norway, native made his NHL debut on Nov. 10 at Philadelphia, becoming the eighth Norwegian-born player in NHL history and the third to play for the Avalanche (Jonas Holos, Anders Myrvold). He scored his first NHL goal on Nov. 21 at Washington, becoming the fifth Norwegian-born player to score a goal.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound left wing began the season with San Antonio before being recalled by Colorado on Nov. 8. He was reassigned to the Rampage on Feb. 23 and recalled for the second and final time on Feb. 27.
Following the season, Martinsen represented his country at the 2016 IIHF World Championship in Russia, where he totaled three points (2g/1a) in seven games. It marked his seventh consecutive appearance for Norway at the world championships.
