WJC: Jost will play for gold

WJC: Jost will play for goldTyson Jost and Team Canada will face Team USA in the 2017 World Junior Championship finals.

The 2017 World Junior Championship is slowly nearing its end, as the four remaining teams battled to play for gold. Only a single prospect from the Avalanche organization was involved in the action, as forward Tyson Jost and Team Canada went head to head with Sweden. Swedish goalie Adam Werner was once again left out of the lineup. Werner didn’t make an appearance in the Swedish lineup so far and it’s highly unlikely that he will make one at all.

USA – Russia 4:3 after SO (1:1, 2:1, 0:1, 0:0)

20. White (Keller, Jones), 31. Kunin (Greenway, Bracco), 37. White (Anderson, Keller), 70. Terry – 12. Kaprizov (M. Vorobyov), 22. Guryanov (Kudako, Karnaukhov), 47. Guryanov

In what was probably the most entertaining game of the entire tournament, Team USA and Russia traded goals throughout the entire game, forcing overtime and a shootout later on. The seven-round shootout was decided by Denver native Troy Terry, who scored three straight shootout goals to send the US to the finals.

Sweden – Canada 2:5 (2:2, 0:1, 0:2)

7. Eriksson Ek (Soderlund), 9. Grundstrom (A. Nylander, Eriksson Ek) – 8. Stephens (Cirelli), 19. Cirelli (Clague, Chabot), 33. J. Gauthier (Dubois), 48. D. Strome (Juulsen, Bean), 59. J. Gauthier (D. Strome, Jost)

The hosts found themselves down 2-1 midway through the first period, as the Swedes chased goalie Connor Ingram out of the net after allowing two goals on just three shots. However, the Swedes lost the lead with a minute left in the opening frame and never recovered. The Canadians scored two straight goals and added an insurance marker in the empty net, with Tyson Jost getting an assist on the play and finally ending his point draught. Jost had a TOI of 15:25 and finished the night with four shots on goal.
