2016 IIHF Worlds Summary: Day 3
The third game day of the 2016 IIHF World Championship saw a total of six games being played. With the exception of Reto Berra, who was left on the bench following a shaky performance against Kazakhstan, Anton Lindholm and Mikko Rantanen, both being healthy scratches once again, every Avalanche player played for their respective team.
Kazakhstan – Russia 4:6 (3:3, 0:1, 1:2)

Hungary – Canada 1:7 (1:2, 0:4, 0:1)

After a comfortable win against archrival USA, Canada cruised to an easy victory against Hungary. Matt Duchene was the only Canadian skater not to get on the scoresheet. Canada’s alternative captain was paired up with Brad Marchand and Connor McDavid and had a TOI of more than 18 minutes. Duchene didn’t register a shot on goal, but finished the game +1. Calvin Pickard had his debut at the World Championship, stopping 22 shots and finishing the game with a save-percentage of .955.
Finland – Germany 5:1 (2:0, 2:1, 1:0)
7. Laine, 10. Komarov, 30. Aho, 38. Koskiranta, 60. Laine – 39. Macek
Mikko Rantanen was once again absent from the Finnish roster, being a healthy scratch for the game.
Norway – Switzerland 4:3 after OT (1:1, 2:0, 0:2, 1:0)

Reto Berra was benched in favor of Robert Mayer, as Switzerland dropped their second straight game. Facing off against the Swiss was forward Andreas Martinsen, who once again played on Norway’s top line. After Switzerland scored two unanswered goals and forced OT, it was Martinsen, who scored the game’s game-winning goal. Martinsen had two shots on goal and finished the game -1.France – Slovakia 1:5 (1:2, 0:2, 0:1)
