Invasion IX: Interview with Dodo

Invasion IX: Interview with DodoEurolanche Invasion IX starts in January. 10 Fan Club members from 4 countries will travel to the US. We're introducing member by member in these inteviews.

Jozef “Dodo” Mikulcik, 28, comes from the village of Slatinské Lazy in Central Slovakia. He’s been a Colorado Avalanche fan since the 2000/2001 season. He works as a manager in a private firm specializing in wood-processing. This will be his first trip to Denver.

Why did you decide to go to Colorado?

I wanted to go to Colorado ever since I became a Eurolanche member. I’ve been thinking about signing up for an Invasion before, but something changed my plans every time. I thought that now is the right time to finally sign up, because who knows if there will be another chance to participate in such an event.  To sum it up, it’s been a dream of mine for a long time and I finally want to fulfill it. This will be my first time in Denver.

What are you looking forward to the most?

It’s hard to single out one thing. I’d say that I’m looking forward to the trip in general. First of all, I’m looking forward to attending NHL games in person, because that’s what the Eurolanche Invasion project is all about. On the other hand, the entire program of the Invasion is once again very interesting, so it won’t be just about hockey. I haven’t really travelled all too much, so I’m looking forward to visiting a wholly different country and to experience the mentality, culture and to meet new people.

What are your expectations from the trip in general?

I expect to fulfill my dream and to see my favorite hockey team in person. I also think that we’ll experience a ton of fun, because I’ve already met the other participants in Brno and I think that we’re a great group and it’ll remain that way once we are overseas. Furthermore, I expect that I’ll get to see a lot of interesting things that I wouldn’t have the opportunity to see in Slovakia or anywhere in Europe.

Have you followed previous Invasions? If so, what stood out for you the most? What would you like to experience?

Yes. I’ve been following the Invasions for quite some time now and I really loved the coverage. While I was reading articles about previous Invasions, I always told myself that I’d love to experience the same things one day. Now, it looks like that it will finally happen. For me, what stood out the most was probably the meeting with Scott Parker. At first, Scott may look like a really tough guy, but upon reading all the articles and looking at all the photos from the meeting, I got the feeling that he’s a really nice person. He’s surely a fascinating and interesting person, so I certainly wouldn’t mind meeting him.

How long have you been a member of Eurolanche and what do you think about Eurolanche?

Honestly, I don’t really remember. I’m not a person with a good memory for dates and similar things. I think, every Avalanche fan should be happy that such a fan club exists. There’s a whole lot of work behind the entire project that we don’t really see. I’m really thankful to everyone, who helps Eurolanche function the way it does. Personally, I think that no other NHL team or even the hockey teams at home have the level of service that we have. The amount and quality of articles, activities in Europe and first and foremost the Invasions – that’s something unique that you don’t see too often.

How do you like the organization and preparations for Invasion IX?

I’m more than pleased. Everything’s new for me, so I’m very grateful for every suggestions and help I get. If not for the professional approach of the organizer and the great group participating in Invasion IX, I’d probably get lost at the first corner. Now, I don’t have any worries and I’m already counting the days until the trip.
